a potential health danger for a person who may be prone to certain illnesses because of inherited genetics or family lifestyle patterns
biological risk
making an agreement between two or more parties, involving a shift in responsibility and control toward a shared effort by client and professional as opposed to an effort by the professional alone.
contracting
a possible danger to a family's health determined by the relatonship between family financial resources and the demands on those resources.
economic risk
helping people acquire the skills and information necessary for informed decision making and ensuring that they have the authority to make decisions that affect them.
empowerment
a situation whereby the demands of the situation exceed the resources and coping capacity of the family.
family crisis
a condition including the promotion and maintenance of physical, mental, spiritual, and social health for teh family unit and for individual family members.
family health
process of identifing and anyzing an idividual's prognostic characteristics of health and comparing them with those of a standard age-group, thereby providing a prediction of a person's likelihood of prematurely developing the health problems that have h
health risk appraisal
application of selectd interventions to control or reduce risk fators and minimize the incidence of associated disease and premature mortality. Risk reduction is reflected in greater congruity between appraised and achievable goals.

the actual nurse visit to the home that gives the nurse the opportunity to assess the family's neigborhood and community to assess teh family's neighborhood and community resources, as well as the home and family interactions.

settled course of action to be followed by a government or institution to obtain a desired end.
policy
after a home visit is concluded, the nurse documents the visit and services provided.
post-visit phase
contact between nurse and family before an actual home visit is made.
pre-visit phase
the probability of some event or outcome within a specified period of time.
risk
risky social situations that can contribute to the stressors experienced by families. If adequate resources and coping processes are not available, breakdowns in health can occur.
social risks
when the purpose of a home visit has been accomplished, the nurse reviews with the family what has occurred and what has been accomplished. This provides a basis for planning further home visits.
termination phase
movement from one developmental or health stage or condtition to another that may be a time of potential risk for families.
