- Assemblage
- An artistic process in which a three-dimensional artistic composition is made from putting together found objects
- Appropriation
- To take possession of another's imagery (or sounds), often without permission, reusing it in a context which differs from its original context, most often in order to examine issues concerning originality or to reveal meaning not previously seen in the original
- Abstraction
- Imagery which departs from representational accuracy, to a variable range of possible degrees, for some reason other than something apprearing to be true
- Photomontage
- A single pictorial composition made by juxtaposing or overlapping many pictures or designs of photographs
- Typography
- The design, arrangement, style, and appearance of type matter
- Overpainting
- A finishing layer of paint applied over another layer of paint, or under layer, once it has dried (or painting over a collage)
- Chance/ Random
- A lack of order, purpose, cause, or predictability in non-scientific parlance
- Composition
- The plan, placement or arrangement of the elements of art in a work
- Contemporary
- Current, belonging to the same period of time. Usually referring to our present time, but can refer to being current with any specified time
- Modernism
- An art movement characterized by the deliberate departure from tradition and the use of innovative forms of expression that distinguish many styles in the arts and literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
- Manifesto
- A public declaration of principles, policies, or intentions
- Negative Space
- Empty space in an artwork
- Collage
- A picture or design created by adhering such basically flat elements as newspaper, wallpaper, printed text and illustrations, photographs, cloth, string, etc., to a flat surface
