Discomfort that an individual feels when they are at risk of confirming a negative stereotype about their group
Why has stereotype threat become popular in research?

No it’s not only limited to them. It’s also seen in gay daycare workers, female drivers and white athletes.

If the individual observes the situational cues and thinks their identity is being negatively evaluated their threat goes away and vigilance goes down

BUT

If the individual observes the situational cues and believes their identity is going to be devalued their vigilance increases and everything freaks them out

It found when women watched the 3:1 men to women commercial they felt less belonging and didn't want to attend, they felt stress and were more vigilant than the 1:1 men to women ratio who felt normal
