- IMAGERY
- Words and phrases that create vivid sensory experiences for a reader
- METAPHOR
- An implied comparison is made between two unlike things
- SENSORY DETAILS
- "Details perceived by sight, hearing, smell or any mode by which one perceives stimuli outside or within the body"
- ONOMATOPOEIA
- Words whose sound imitates their suggested meaning
- RHYME
- The repetition of sounds at the ends of words.
- HYPERBOLE
- Figure of speech that uses deliberate exaggeration
- MOOD
- The feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for a reader
- SIMILE
- Comparison is made between two unlike things using the words "like" or "as"
- LITERAL MEANING
- The actual meaning of a word or phrase
- RHYTHM
- The pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in spoken or written language.

- A symbolic interpretation of written work

- "Human qualities are attributes to animals, inanimate objects or ideas"

- The phrasing of language so as to balance grammatically ideas of equal importance.

- The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning or words

- A group of lines of poetry that are usually similar in length and pattern and are separated by spaces.
