- patron
- a person who financially supports scholars or artists

- patrician
- a member of the highest class of society in Italian city-states: an aristocrat
- Renaissance
- the revival to classical Greek and Roman art, literature, and learning that originated in Italy in the 14th century and later spread through Europe
- plague
- a highly infectious, ususally fatal, epidemic disease
- dowry
- money, land, servant, or any other valuable property given by a bride's family to her husband at marriage
- republic
- a political order whose head is not a monarch and which in supreme power in a body of elected citizens
- mercenary
- a professional solider who is hired by a professional country
- heretic
- a person who has controversial opinions especially one who publicily disagrees with the accepted beliefs of the Roman Capital Church
