- In Montag's society, everything was uniformed and picture perfect. Every one had the same thoughts, everyone cared for the same things, and everyone had the same routine every day. Montag's society was thought of by the people to be serene and faultless. To maintain that ideal community, every one has to behave and agree. One way the society tries to maintain this, is banning books. The government thinks that if people read books they will start to think, and if they start to think they will have opinions. If opinions rise it will cause arguments between people and disrupt the society. The government is also afraid of the people realizing how much they are missing out on in life, for example: love, emotions, and the morning dew. The government thinks that if the people start to realize this, they will start to rebel and cause a debate between the government and citizens. The government is afraid of losing their perfect society and especially losing their power. (AS)

- In the beginning of the book, Montag did not understand the meaning of love. He thought that he loved his wife, Mildred, and that she loved him back. However, after Montag started to read books and understand how people were actually supposed to look at life, he started to feel real emotions and love for his wife. Did Mildred love Montag back? Montag tries to figure this out by asking her where they first met. Mildred response was not the one Montag was hoping for. In fact, Mildred could not remember where she met him. In my opinion, this showed Montag that his wife could not remember why she fell in love with him. Mildred also shows more love for her "family," which are the characters on the parlor walls. She always talks to Montag about her "family" and how she loves them, which brings Montag to the decision that she loves her "family more than she loves him. Even though Mildred showed signs of her not feeling emotions, Montag still loved her. We know this by how he reacts in the end of the book. When the bomb strikes the city, Montag screams for Mildred. This shows that he still has feelings for her and feels an emptiness inside, because he knows she is gone forever.(AS)

- He wanted to know what it was like to read a book. Beatty said that there is a time in a fireman's life where they want to know what its like to read a book. So he brought it home to read and also to keep in the attic because he wanted to show other people. Montag also needed to convince himself that books were bad. (CJ)

However, Faber does showed signs of being a coward. For example, he never actually fought with Montag side by side. Instead, he used a two way radio to contact Montag who was fighting people in the higher places of society, while he hid at home safe and sound. This can be argued either way. (AS)
