- Figurative Lanuage used to envoke menatal images not only physical but mental.
- Figurative Lanuage
- The use of phrases to envoke a mental image.
- Metaphor
- A figure of speech literally denoting an object or idea is applied to another. "Drowning in debt"
- Simile
- A figure of speech in which one explicit comparison is made between to essentially unlike things. Using like or as.
- Personification
- A type of metaphor where an object or animal is given human like qualites. "My car was happy to be washed"
- Hyperbole
- A bold, deliberate overstatement.
- Alliteration
- A head rhyme. "Wholly and Wild." "Gander of Geese"
- Consonance
- End Rhyme. A pleasing combination of sounds. "Cool and Soul"
- Assonance
- The repititon of vowel sounds without the consonant. Middle Rhyme. "Cool and Soul"
- Onomatopeia
- The formation of words which imitate sounds. "Clang, sizzle, bang"
- Allusion
- An implied or indirect reference such as a historical event or a well known quote from literature.
