- Social Gospel
- the idea that faith should be expressed through good works

- a house for immigrants where they could join clubs, learn English and other languages, and eat
- Brooker T. Washington
- believed that African Americans had to accept segregation for the moment. Founded the Tuskegee Institute to teach African Americans practical skills. He believed they can improve the situation by acquiring farming and vocational skills

- an organization of professional politicians. It was made because many American cities had problems such as crime, bad housing, and poor sanitation
