In Vietnamese, an adjective or an adverb can be strengthened by the use of a "degree" word, placed before or after them:
Rất vui: very happy
Lâu quá: very long time
"quá" expresses a degree that is a little higher than that of "rất". "vui quá" is stronger than "rất vui". Note that sometimes, quá is placed before the adj. For example, "quá vui". In this case, the meaning is negative: too happy (that something negative may happen). - Cũng
