- Proportion
- How sizes relate to one another.
- Stippling
- Thousands of tiny dots.
- Emphasis
- Drawing the viewer's attention to a certain part of an artwork.
- Kiln
- A furnace for firing ceramic products.
- Score
- Scratch both surfaces on what you're going to join.
- Slip
- Suspension of clay or glaze in water.
- Tempera Paint
- Paint that can stain your shirt.
- Burnishing
- Using the back of a spoon or some other tool to make the clay smooth.
- Wedge
- Mixing and de-airing clay by cutting is diagonally and slamming the pieces together.
- Pattern
- Created by repitition.
- Fixative
- Protects charcoal drawings from smudging.
- Maria Martinez
- A famous Native American Pottery maker.
- Atmospheric Perspective
- The way when atmosphere distorts value, detail and color when seen further away.
- Unity
- "Wholeness"
- Coil
- "Rope" roll of clay used in hand building.
- Hatching
- The direction of the plains of the object, or a series of lines.
- Cross-Hatching
- Crossing the lines that represent plains.
- Asymmetrical
- Different objects on each side but they are balanced.
- Thumbnails
- A quick sketch of what you are going to draw before you draw the final copy.
- Contrast
- Difference in elements that that add interest.
- Weaver
- A piece of magazine that is made to weave through the ribs.
- Firing
- The heating of clay or glaze to a specific temperature.
- Ribs
- What gives the basket structure.
- Symmetrical
- One half is the same as the other half.
- Value
- How light or dark something is.
- Balance
- Equal amount of visible weight.
