- dynamic characters
- evolve as indivifuals learning form their experiences and growing emotionally
- climax
- turning point the moment when the reader's interest and emotional intensity reach a peak
- falling actoin
- occurs after the climax and leads up to the resolution
- theme
- central idea or ideas the writer intends to share with the reader
- setting
- refers to the time and place in which the action occurs
- dialogue
- conversation between characters this is the lifeblood of drama aloud and appears to be unaware of the audience
- main characters
- whotse who the action center around
- plot
- sequence of actions and events in a literary work
- external conflict
- pits a character against nature society or another character basis
- rising action
- refers to evnets that lead to the climax by adding complications or expanding the conflict
- static characters
- tend to stay in a fixed position over the course of the story
- protagonist
- main character or hero in a narrative or drams usually the one with whom the audience identifies

- people and sometimes animals or other beings who take partin the action of a s story or novel
- scene
- a subdivision of an act in drama each scene usually establishes a different time or place
- playwright
- author of a play

- a long speech spoken by a single character to himself or herself or to the audience
- exposition
- part of a literary work that provides the background information necessary to understand characters and their actions
- conflict
- struggle between opposing forces that is the basis of the sotry's plot
- act
- a major unit of action in a play similar to a chapter in a novel
- stage directions
- italicized instructions in a play wirtten by the playwirghtdescribe the setting entrances and exits of the characters and how characters lok speak and react to events or to others suggest use of props lighting scenery sound effects and costumes
- script
- copies of thepaly the actors use
- antagonist
- usually the principal charater in opposition to the protagonisht in a narrative or drams can also be a force of nature
- cast of characters
- list of all the characters in a play usually in the order of appearance found at the beginning of a script
- narrator
- the character or voic that relates the story's events to the reader
- audience
- the person or persons intended to read piece of work
- internal conflict
- conflict between opposing forces within a character
- minor characters
- interact with the main characters and help move the sotry along
- aside
- a short speech or comment that is delivered by a character to the audience but that is beyond the hearing of other characters who are present
- resolution
- final outcome of events tie up loose ends
- foil
- character whose traits contrast with those of another character
