- Development
- all of the changes undergone by living things as they grow
- spontaneous generation
- the theory that non-living things produce living things: for example, that frogs arise spontaneously from the mud.
- organism
- a living thing that is made of one or more cells, uses energy, moves, responds to its environment, adjusts, reproduces, adapts, and has a life span
- hypothesis
- a prediction that can be tested
- variable
- in an experiment, the factor tested
- Biogenesis
- the theory that only living things come from other living things
- Response
- the reaction of an organism to a stimulus
- adaptation
- any characteristic of an organism that makes it better to survive in its environment
- technology
- the use of scientific knowledge to improve the quality of human life or solve a problem.
- cell
- the smallest unit of an organism that can perform life functions
- scientific method
- problem solving methods used by scientists ; define the problem, make a hypothesis , test the hypothesis, analyze the results, and draw conclusions
- theory
- an explanation of nature, based on many observations; subject to change when evidence changes.
- homeostasis
- the regulation of steady, life-maintaining conditions inside organism or cell, despite changes in it's environment.
- life span
- the length of time an organism is expected to live

- anything an organism responds to.

- a rule that describes a pattern in nature and what will happen under specific conditions
