Demonstrate by looking at the front tire while turning wheel No more than 10 degrees of movement or 2 inches on a twenty inch wheel before tire moves
Gauges
Air Ammeter/Voltmeter Oil Pressure
Air Leak Check
Shut off engine Transmission in Neutral Release Brakes Apply foot brake and hold for 1 full minute (time it!) On single vehicle - no more than 3psi drop in pressure in 1 minute In Combination vehicle - no more than 4psi drop in 1 minute
Low-air Warning
Key on, engine off Pump the foot brake until the Low-Air Warning goes on and say that it should come on at 60 psi or above.
Protection Valve or Parking Brake
Key on, engine off Pump the brakes until the Tractor Protection Valve (combination vehicle) or Parking Brake (single vehicle) pops out and say that it should happen at 20 - 45psi.
Air Governor Cutout
Start the engine Say that you are expecting to hear the Air Governor Cutout at 100 - 120psi Tell the tester when you hear it
Hydraulic Brakes (if applicable)
Pump the brakes 3 times and hold down Tell the tester that the pedal should stay firm and not move within 5 seconds
Trailer Hand Valve
Engage the Trailer Hand Valve (if equipped) or set the Trailer Parking Brake (if not equipped) and demonstrate that the trailer brakes will hold the truck in place
Parking Brake
Apply the Parking Brake only and demonstrate that the Parking Brake will hold the truck in place
Service Brakes
Pull forward slowly and apply the foot brake to stop the truck
Oil Level
Locate the dipstick and explain that the oil level must be within a safe operating range
Power Steering Fluid
Locate the Power Steering Fluid reservoir and explain that the Power Steering Fluid should be indicated within a safe operating range
Air Compressor
Locate the Air Compressor Check for secure mounting Fluid or Air leaks Missing or Loose bolts
Leaks
Check under the vehicle to insure that there are no major leaks indicated by exessive oil or coolant on the ground
Belts
Not Cracked Not Frayed Not too worn No more than 1/2 to 3/4 inches of deflection for proper adjustment
Tires
Front tires: at least 4/32 tread depth on all major grooves All other tires: at least 2/32 tread depth on all major grooves Proper inflation by a gauge or tire thumper (not by kicking the tire) No cuts, bumps, abrasions to tread or sidewalls Valve stem not missing or broken Tread should be evenly worn Duals: free of debri, not touching
Hub oil/Axle seals
Hub oil within safe operating range Axle seals or Hub oil seal not leaking
Steering Box
Locate Steering Box Securely mounted No missing nuts, bolts, or cotter keys Power steering fluid leaks Cracks in the steering box
