Responder bidding to a higher level in a major then necessary:

Why does bidding 2H over 1S promise 5 cards?

f you have 4 bid a minor at the 2 level; if opener has 4 hearts she will then bid them. It gives you room to bid your 4 card minors.

Bid to the level of trump you have. But if you have only 3 trump either pass or with 6 points bid 2.
