- Meiosis
- Cell division in gonads which separates the pairs of homologous chromosomes and results in four gametes each having the monoploid (n) number of chromosomes
- Cyclosis
- The streaming motion of the cytoplasm as it circulates materials in the cell
- Osmosis
- The diffusion of water through a membrane
- Vegetative Propagation
- A form of asexual plant reproduction that produced identical new plants as undifferentiated tissue by mitosis. The resulting cells specialize providing needed tissues
- Zygote
- The fertilized egg
- Gametes
- Monoploid sex cells produced in gonads by meiotic cell division. Sperm and egg
- Gametogenesis
- Mitotic cell division in a gonad which produces monoploid gametes
- Lipid
- An organic molecule that is made of three fatty acid molecules and one glycerol molecule. Ex: fats, oils, and waxes
- Embryo
- An organism in the early stages of development
- Lysosome
- A small, saclike organelle that contains hydrolytic enzymes. The center of cellular digestion.
- Active Transport
- A process that uses energy to transport materials from an area of low concentration to high concentration. Against the concentration gradient.
- Gomad
- In animals, a specialized organ that produces gametes
