- hyperemesis gravidarum
- abnormal condition of pregnancy characterized by excessive vomiting, weight loss and dehydration
- psychogenic vomiting
- can be self- induced or it can occur involuntarily in response to a situation that the person considers threatening or distasteful e.g eating food whose origin is considered repulsive
- anticipatory N&V
- is response triggered by the sight or smell of the clinic or hospital...or that treatment is eminent , N&V experienced during the 1st 24 hrs after chemo. is this as well
- nausea
- senseation of abdominal discomfort that is intermittently accompanied by a desire to vomit
- vomiting
- the reflex act of ejecting the contents of the stomach through the mouth (aka) EMISIS
- process when you throw-up!
- pyloric sphincter contracts, & cardiac sphincter and esophagus relax....allowing the stomach contents 2 B expelled
- anticipatory nausea and vomiting

- occurs 24 - 120 hours after the admin. of chemo.

- occurs 24 to 120 hrs after the administration of chemotherapy
- chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
- usually effects associated /c the use of cancer chemotherapy.
- Acute CINV is stim. by? (chemo. induced N&V)
- stimulated directly by chemotherapeutic agents, it may begin 1-6 hrs after chemo and may last for 24 hours
- retching
- involuntary labored, spasmodic contractions of the abdominal and respiratory muscles w/o the expulsion of gastric content ( DRY HEAVES)

- anticipatory nausea & vomit, acute CINV, & delayed emesis
- radiation-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV)
- usually from high- energy radiation the radiation or radiotherapy
