MARY JANE, JOANNA, SUSAN
[HF] three Wilks girls who allow DUKE and KING to almost steal their inheritance, don't take DR ROBINSON's advice that they are fakes. The money is hidden by HUCK in the coffin, he tells MJ to have it dug up, and when it is, to prove whether the KING/DUKE are the real brothers or the brothers are, the money is found and the KING/DUKE are almost hung, but they escape to HUCK's dismay and follow him and JIM
CHILLINGWORTH
[SL] HESTER's husband, absent for two years, an intellectual, deformed and older than she, poses as a physician to speak to HESTER and then to stay in DIMMESDALE's home to pull his strings and torture him to death. dies of grief when he fails to out DIMMESDALE and destroy him.
JIM
[HF] a slave of MISS WATSON who is superstitious, a father figure to HUCK, very selfless, runs away with HUCK down the river when he learns he may be sold to New Orleans, at the mercy of everyone else but shows HUCK that humanity and race are separate things, is captured by DUKE and sold to SILAS PHELPS until HUCK decides to steal him out of slavery condemning himself to hell (showing he thinks he and JIM are equal), and he is freed by MISS WATSON in her will when she dies
REVEREND WILSON
[SL] an older, more senior reverend to the town, a great authority, also at HESTER's punishment

[MB] DUNCAN's eldest son, named prince of cumberland, more suspicious and clever than his father, flees to england

[HF] cares about HUCK, keeps the money he earned in TOM SAWYER (a lot) for a dollar when PAP is returned, tries to get joint custody of HUCK with the WIDOW DOUGLAS to keep him from PAP but the new judge wants the family to stay together, though eventually the new judge reconsiders
NATHAN JOHNSON
[FD] an abolitionist in MA who is very helpful to the new DOUGLASSES
AUNT POLLY
[HF] SALLY's sister, with whom TOM lives (his mother) in MO
SYME
[1984] one of WINSTON's colleagues specializing in Newspeak dictionaries, who he thinks is too smart, and he is vaporized
GOVERNOR BELLINGHAM
[SL] governor of the town, tries to take PEARL from HESTER but DIMMESDALE convinces him not to, present at HESTER's punishment
HARRIET BAILEY
[FD] DOUGLASS' mother, walks 12 miles to see him at night, dies when he is seven
BANQUO
[MB] another captain, MACBETH's best friend but kind and loyal, murdered by MACBETH because his sons will be kings, also witnesses the prophecy; his ghost will haunt MACBETH later
WITCHES
[MB] show MACBETH prophecies of his rise to power and his fall from it
DUKE, KING/DAUPHIN
[HF] a pair of frauds with whom HUCK and JIM meet up along the river, and they have to stay with them, do many frauds including the bad Shakespeare show, the Royal Nonesuch (women and children not admitted), the scam on the Wilkses (KING acts as Harvey, DUKE as William (deaf)) and the final scam near the PHELPS' house, when they are found out and tarred and feathered

[MB] encourages MACBETH to murder DUNCAN and comes up with most of the plan, very ambitious, gives up her sex at the outset of the play, commits suicide as the castle is attacked

[HF] two sisters who live together in St Petersburg and adopt HUCK. MISS WATSON represents hypocritical religious and ethical values, but WIDOW DOUGLAS is more patient, kinder, and HUCK doesn't want to disappoint her
