Melted rock material that forms deep within Earth. Some Igneous rock, such as granite, form from magma.
Magma
Melted rock material that reaches Earth's surface before it cools and hardens.
Lava
Bits of weathered rocks and minerals and pieces of dead plants or animals.
Sediments
A process in which minerals, deposited as water evaporates, bind sediments into solid rock.
Cementation
The remains or traces of a living thing from the past, preserved in rock.
Fossil
The continuous series of changes that rocks undergo. In the rock cycle, changes are brought about the factors such as weathering, melting, cooling or pressure.
Rock Cycle
The distance that carries energy and that travels away from its starting point.
Weathering
A black mineral formed from the remains of aceint plants.
coal
Rock that has formed from sediment, like sand, mud, small pieces of rocks. Over long periods of time, these small pieces of debris are compressed (squeezed) as they are buried under more and more layers of sediment that piles up on top of it. Eventually,
Sedimentary Rock
Rocks that are compacted by pressure and heat from deep inside the earth.
Metamorphic rock
A mine usually near or at the earth's surface, from which rock is removed.
Quarry
When molten rock cools, igneous rock is formed. Intrusive rocks are igneous rocks that have formed (and cooled slowly) beneath the surface of the Earth. Extrusive rocks are igneous rocks that have formed (and cooled more quickly) at the surface of the Ea
