- no grains
- rapid cooling rate
- commonly black
Ferromagnesian
- more Fe and Mg present
- darker in color

ex: Gabbro, Basalt
Non-Ferromagnesian
- less Fe and Mg present
- more silica present
- lighter color

ex: Granite, Rhyolite
