- First Continental Congress
- 1774- Convention in Philadelphia called in response to coercive acts. Implemented a trade boycott with British
- Mexican War
- 1846-48 Mexico claimed ownership on Texas. The US annexed Texas- leading to war.
- Bacon's Rebellion
- 1676 Protest against the Royal Governor of Virginia, William Berkeley. Caused by depressed tobacco prices, rising taxes, roaming livestock, and crowds of freed servants wanting Indian lands.
- Boston Massacre
- 1770 British Troops killed 5 civilians. Turned colonial sentiment against British rule.
- Specie Circular
- 1836 Reaction to concerns on land after the indian removal. Government would only accept gold or silver coins in payment for land. Jackson passed this to destroy the bank of the US but it backfired and caused Panic of 1837
- Banishment of Anne Hutchinson
- 1638 Claimed to have direct revelations from God
- Stamp Act
- 1765 Parliment created revenue stamps and required that they be purchased for all printed matter.
- Election of 1840
- 1840- Electors casted votes for four men, the two presidential candidates and the two vice president candidates. William Henry Harrison won but died shortly after inauguration. The choice for vice-president, Tyler, proved to be disasterous.
- Glorious Revolution
- 1688- The overthrowing of King James 2 of England
- Tea Act
- 1773- Government would allow the East India Company to send its Asian tea to America without any duties. Creating a monopoly, causing Americans to be upset.
- Bank War
- 1830- Jackson's attack on the second bank of the US. He viewed it as a monopoly since it was a private institution managed by a board of directors
- Founding of Pennsylvania
- 1681- Quaker William Penn inherited land in America after his father passed away. The King insisted that the new land be named after the father. Unlike other colonies, Pennsylvania was cordial to Indians and lived in peace amongst each other.
- Coercive Acts
- 1744- Series of lawss passed by the British relating to the British colonies in North America. Many colonists viewed these as a violation to their rights and thus organized the First Continental Congress to coordinate protest.
- Nullification Crisis
- 1828- during the presidency of Jackson, an attempt by South Carolina to nullify a federal law passed by Congress.
- Dominion of New England
- 1686- Short lived administration of English in New England region.
