- Bone Tissues
- most rigid connective tissue, internally supports body structures
- Blood Tissues
- cells suspended in fluid called plasma
- Plasma
- colorless watery fluid of blood and lymph containing no cells and in which erythrocytes and leukocytes and platelets are suspended
- Elastic Cartilage
- more flexible (ears and larynx)
- White Blood Cells
- fight infection
- Recticluar Connective Tissue
- provides the framework for some internal organs (spleen, liver, lymphatic organs)
- Dense Connective Tissue
- tendons and ligaments
- Wandering Cells
- appear in tissues temporarily in response to injury or infection
- Loose Connective Tissues
- binds the skin to the muscle tissue below
- Fibrocartilage
- very tough, shock absorber (intervertebral discs, knees and pelvis)
- Fixed Cells
- reside in the tissue for extended period of time
- Connective Tissues
- bind structures, provide support and protection, serve as a framework, fill spaces, store fat, produce blood cells, protect against infection, and help repair tissue damage
- Cartilage
- rigid, provides support, framework, attachments, provides a structural model for many developing bones
- Red Blood Cells
- transport gases
- Adipose Tissues
- fat
- Platelets
- cause blood clotting
- Elastic Connective Tissue
- founnd in the attachments between bones of the spinal column
- Hyaline Cartilage
- most common, tips of bones at joints, soft part of the nose, supporting rings of the trachea. Prominent in early development
