copy deck
Cell Membrane
This is the thin structure that surrounds both plant and animal cells, made up of proteins and lipids. Protects the inside of the cell, supports the cell and gives it shape
This is the control center for most of the cell's activities. It uses a chemical code to tell the other parts of the cell how to do their jobs. "Brain" of the cell
A tiny part of a cell having a special form and function; organelles carry out all life processes.
These are the "powerhouses" of the cell. They make the energy from food unusable for the cell. (power plant)
This is all living material in the cell except the nucleus. Jelly-like.
These fluid-filled sacs that store water and food materials.
Cell Wall
The stiff structure outside the cell membrane in a plant; provides support for the cell
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
These carry materials through the cell like roads and highways.
The basic unit of structure and function of all living things. All living things are made of one or more cells
An organelle in plant cells that contains chlorophyll.
These are the "garbage collectors" of the cell. They break down and remove waste of the cell. Found in animal and few plant cells.
These are the factories that put together proteins, which the cell uses for growth, control, and repair. (tiny, round, dark organelles)
Golgi Bodies
These are the manufacturing and shipping center for a cell. They look like flattened sacs. (materials are stored here, like a Wal-Mart)
