1st person
The narrator of a composition uses the word I for themselves. The story is narrated by 1 character
Foil
A character that serves, by contrast, to highlight opposing traits in another character. ex. Draco is a foil to Harry Potter
Chronological Order
The order which events happen in time.
3rd person
The voice of the narrator is the author his/herself.
Exaggeration
Another statement to enlarge beyond the bounds of truth. ex. "Max is as strong as an ox."
Main Idea
The overall message of the author, usually just in non-fiction.
Jargon
Potentially confusing words and phrases used in an occupation, trade, or field of study. ex. Touchdown
Folklore
Sayings and verbal compositions passed along by word of mouth. Includes superstition, spells, nursery rhymes, and other traditions.
Inference
Coming to a judgement that something is true because of a previously considered truth.
Stereotype
A character who is so ordinary or unoriginal that the character seems like an oversimplified representation of a type, gender, or occupation
