- Northwest Ordinance
- This law was passed in 1785. It set up a government for the Northwest territory by guaranteeing the settlers basic rights and had outlawed slavery.
- Shay's rebellion
- In 1786 and was organized by Daniel Shays from Massachusetts. It was caused by the government having to seize the farmers land who couldn't pay their taxes or loans. Daniel and 2,000 farmers attacked the court house and prevented the state from seizing their land. The militia had to drive them off.

- The three fifths compromise
- This law said that the slaves would be counted as 3/5s of the population. Because of the fact that slaves couldn't vote this was only right
- Great Compromise
- Made up by Roger Sherman. It said that the house the legislature would have 2 houses and the lower house would elected by the popular vote and the upper house would be chosen by the legislatures and every state would have 2 senates.

- Happened on May 25,1785 in Philadelphia. Every state sent representatives except for Rhode Island. Their mission was to rewrite the Articles of Confederation.

- This set up a system for surveying the Northwest territory and settling it. It called for it to be split up into townships.
- Articles of Confederation
- completed in 1777by the continental congress. This was the 1st constitution that created a confederation. This was not a success.

- A document that sets out the laws and principles of a government
- Roger Sherman
- He made up the Great Comprise because the convention didn't think that they would adopt a plan at all. He was from Connecticut

- This was made up by William Patterson. This said that the government had the same branches of the Virginia but the legislature only had 1 house and every state had to vote for it.
- Compromise
- A settlement where two sides gives up some of its demands in order to find an agreement

- Was the most prepared person at the convection he had made up the Virgina plan with Edmund Randolph
- Virgina Plan
- This called for a national government that was strong. It had a legislative branch,executive branch and a judicial branch. It said that the legislative branch would have two houses and the seats would be awarded by population which meant that larger states would have more representation than the small states
