- stretto
- in a fugue, overlapping entrances of the fugue subject in several voices simultaneously
- monophony
- a musical texture involving a single melodic line

- the first section of a fugue

- a motive, phrase, or theme repeated over and over again
- cadence
- the notes or chords ending a section of music with a feeling of conclusiveness
- imitation
- a polyphonic musical texture in which the various melodic lines use approximately the same themes and do not change pitch

- the concluding section of a piece or a movement, after the main elements of the form have been presented
