- indicating a point or region which lies further from the point of central attachment.

Distal
(the wrist is a distal to the elbow.) - a point or region which lies above another point or region in the noraml anatomical position.

superior
(the neck is a superior to the chest.) - a point or region which lies below another point or region in the noraml anatomical position.

inferior
(the chest is inferior to the neck) - this descrves any plane passing longitudinally through the body from the anterior to the posterior surface. The sagittal plane which divides the body into two equal parts, right and left, is called the MId-Sagittal Plane.
- Sagittal Plane
- any plane which passes laterall through the body at right angles to the safittal plane. These planes seperate the anterior and posterior portions of the body.
- Coronal Plane
- a relative term indicating a point or region lying closer from the mid-sagittal plane.

Medial
(eye is medial to the ear.) - a relative term indicating a point ore region lying further form the mid-sagittal plane.

Lateral
(the ear is lateral to the eye.) - Standing upright, with the arms at the sides of the body, the hands palm forwards, the feet pointing forwards parallel to one another.
- Anatomical Position
- a relative term indicating that a point or region lies nearer the front surface of the body. The term ventral is synonymous with anterior in descrving the h8uman form.

Anterior
The term ventral is synonymous with anterior in descrving the h8uman form. - a relative term indicating that a point or region lie nearer the rear or back surface of the body.

Posterior
The term Dorsal and posterior are synonymous - a relative term indicating a point or region whcih is nearest the point of central attachment.

Proximal
the elbow is proximal to the wrist - a hole or opening in bone for transmission of ligaments, blood vessels and nerves.
- Foramen (foramina)
- a pit, depression or concavity in or on a particular bone.
- Fossa (fossae)
- an open area within bone or formed by one or more bones.
- Cavity
- an elongated tube-like passageway.

the term canal is synonymous with meatus. - a general term describing any maked eminence on bone.
- Process
- a relatively large process or eminence.
- Tuberosity
- a realtiely small process or eminence.
- Tubercle
- descriptive of a sharp, elongated or slender process.

- a rounded process
- Condyle
- an opening to the surface or space within a bone
- Aperture
- a small articular swelling.
- Capitulum
- a prominent border or margine with a distinct linear elevation or ridge
- Crista
- a narrow slit or depression in a bone.
- Fissure
- a shallow pit or repression on a bone.
- Fovea
- a slight ridge development on a bone
- linea
- is used synonymously with "skull" and refers to the skeleton of the head, face and lower jab.
- Cranium
- is the term used for asku.. .acking only the lower jaw.
- Calvarium
- is a skull lacking the lower jaw and facial region
- Calvaria
- is the brain case or skull cap alone
