- Philip II
- King of Macedonia after Peloponnesian War. Under his leadership Macedonia became a major power in the Greek speaking world.
- Macedonia
- Kingdom north of Greece. People lived in mountain villages rather than city-states.
- Demosthenes
- Athenian speaker that warned Greeks of the threat of Philip and the Macedonians. They did not listen.
- Alexander the Great
- Son of Philip II. He was 20 when he took over Macedonia. He was taught by Aristotle. Great Warrior.
- Darius III
- Persian king that tried to overthrow Alexander the Great.
- Hellenistic
- Greek culture that blended Egyptian, Persian and Indian influence.
- Alexandria
- African city that became the foremost center of commerce and Hellenistic civilization.
- Euclid
- highly regarded mathematician who opened a school of geometry in Alexandria.
- Archimedes
- Scientist that figured out the mathematical equation for PI.
- Colossus of Rhodes
- Largest known Hellenistic statue. Made of bronze and stood more than 100 feet high.
- Aristarchus
- Astronomer that proposed the earth revolves around the sun.
- Erastosthenes
- Director of Alexandrian Library. Calculated Earth's size using geometry.
- Stoicism
- Philosophy that believed in a divine power who controlled the universe.
- Stoic
- Someone who is indifferent to or unaffected by pain.
- Winged Victory of Samothrace
- Statue that shows a winged figure standing on the bow of a ship.
