- when colored people and whites used seperate facilities
- segregation
- a bill passed by Republicans that made a majority of whites in the South to swear loyalty to the North and can't hold office if they volunteered for the Confederate military
- Wade-Davis Bill
- an organization that provided food, clothing, jobs, medical care, and even helped poor whites
- Freedman's Bureau
- threw out the southern state governments that voted against the 14th amendment - all southern states EXCEPT Tennessee. It also forced the southern governments to ratify the 14th amendment and until then wouldn't have political power
- Reconstruction Act of 1867
- a series of laws that gave blacks unequal rights and limited them below normal rights. It was basically slavery but with new names and slightly better conditions
- Black Codes
- protected the rihts of all citizens to vote, outlawed discrimination in hiring, and ended segrgation in public places
- Civil Rights Act of 1964
- ended literacy tests and allowed federal officials to register voters in states where local officials practiced discrimination
- Voting Rights Act
- whites who were aginst Republicans, black advancement in society, and wear ridiculous white robes and pointing hats
- KKK (Ku Klux Klan)
- Republicans that didn't want to punish the South, just reconstruct it

- Pres. Johnson was put up for impeachment by Republicans because Johnson wouldn't pass any of their laws and feared that he wouldn't pass any more

- a man who was 1/18 black was sent to the back of a train because of that and it allowed segregation as long as facilites were equal *coughNOTcough*
- Plessy v. Ferguson Case
- a case in which a man requested that his daughter go to a nearby white school opposed to a far away black one. He took it to court and made iit apparent that segregation does not comply with the 14th amendment (she went to school there)
- Brown Case
- led by Rev. Martin Luther King, a boycott on buses, resturants, stores, and other places in the name of anti-segregation
- Montgomery boycott
- Four black high schoolers went to a white school; the governor didn't want them in there, but Pres. Eisenhower enforced the federal government onto the school; he sent national guards in to protect and enforce that they could go in
- Little Rock, Arkansas
- a woman who refused to give up her seat to a white man in the white section of the bus because she was tired from shopping. she was arrested, tried, and found innocent
- Rosa Parks
- a reverend who had been active in the civil rights movement since the 1950's, MLK Jr. was a man who was a revolutionary person who changed the way blacks were treated

- formed by Huey P. Newton, this group of blacks thought that they should take arms in hand and enforce their influence on whites
- Black Panthers
- this group of blacks thought that they should separate completely from whites and go back to their roots

- How is Ruby Bridges connected to the concept of Reconstruction II?
- Ruby Bridges was a little girl who went to an all white school in New Orleans. Despite the governor's order to not go, Ruby went to the school enforced by the Presidnt and the federal government and was escorted by US Marshalls and had rights protected at the point of a gun
