ADENOSINE CLASS: Endogenouse nucleoside
(occurs naturally in all cells of the body)
Adenosine Action: *slows electrical conduction through AV node, inhibits re-entry pathway, converting SVT to NSR
*onset= withing 30sec. ; duration 1 to 2 minutes
adenosine Indications: SVT
Adenosine Contraindications: *2nd and 3rd degree heart block
*sick sinus syndrome
Adenosine Side Effects: *SOB/Dyspnea; may cause bronchospasm in asthma pt's "BHPO"
*Chest pressure / palitations; may be acute in some pt's
*Mild Hypotension (decreased peripheral vascular resistance)
*nausea
*Trannsient arrhythmias; (bradycardias, AV blocks, sinus pause, ventricular ectopy) transient usually self limiting
Aspirin Class: Salicylate
Aspirin Action: *Inhibits the natural tendency for platelets to accumulate inside injured or occluded cardiac arteries therby promoting better blood flow through vessels to better perfuse heart
*onset 15 to 30 minutes; duration Days
Aspirin Indications: Discomfort/pain of suspected cardiac origin
Aspirin Contraindications: NONE
Aspirin Side Effects: *GI upset (indigestion, N/V, Epigastric PN, heartburn)

*Occult bleeding
Atropine Class: Anticholinergic
Atropine Action: *Competes with acetylcholine for receptors blocking PNS resopnse to SA & AV nodes
*Increases heart rate by increasing electrical conduction through heart
*Inhibits secreations by decreasing PNS effect on bronchial, salivary, sweat, and GI glands
*onset= IV 2-4 min, Duration 2-6 hrs
Atropine Indications: *aystole, PEA with bradycardia <60

*unstable bradycardia

*OPP poisoning
Atropine Contraindications: NONE
Atropine Side Effects: *tachycardia/ palpitations

*drymouth/ N/V

*Pupil Dilation/ blurred vision

*flushed/ hot/ dry skin
