Enjambed
the running over of a sentence or thought into the next line without a pause
Euphony
a smooth, pleasant sounding choice and arrangement of sound, opposite of cacophony
Axiom
a self evident truth that requires no proof
Antithesis
placing parts of a sentence against another (opposites) to form a balanced contrast of ideas
Antecedent
the preceding word or sentence that follows a logical order
Dissonance
a mingling of discordant sounds
Pragmatic
practical and the concern of making choices that are useful
Authorial Persona
something that the author constructs, a persona that is different from the personas the author may have when they're at home or with friends
Epithet
a word which makes the reader see the object described in a clearer or sharper light
Indeterminism
human actions are deliberate by choice and free-will
Inversion
reversal of the natural or usual order of words
Dysphemism
the substitution of a harsh, disparaging, or unpleasant expression for a more neutral one.
Cosmology
branch of philosophy dealing with origin and general structure of universe
Canon
applied to works generally accepted as "great ones"
Apposition
the placing next to a noun another noun or phrase that explains it
Determinism
doctrine or belief that all events belong to a predetermines sequence of events
Homily
an inspirational saying or cliche
Generic Conventions
the features shown by texts that allow them to be put into a specific genre
Explication
the art of interpreting or discovering the meaning of a text
Catharsis
a technique used to relieve a tension and anxiety by bringing repressed feeling and fear to consciousness
