- hortative
- an exhortation that includes the speaker. ex: Let's clean your room!
- interrogative
- used to ask a question. (sign the papers, old man)
- interrupted
- modifier between subject and verb/ between verb and direct object
- exclamatory
- used to show strong emotion. often ends with !
- rhetorical
- sentence that is loose, periodic, balanced, or antithetical
- loose
- a complex sentence that doesn't end with the main clause, but continues with other clauses, modifiers. can put the period anywhere.
- balanced
- a sentence with two or more clauses equal in structure, meaning, length
- periodic
- a sentence that leaves the completion of its main clause to the end. can only put the period at the end of the sentence
- declarative
- used to make a statement of fact. ex: Milk contains calcium.
- imperative
- used to express a command. begins with adverb, usually has an implied subject
- parallel
- balanced in structure, meaning, length
- inverted
- anastrophe (sort of) inverted order of the sentence - switch subject and verb
- antithetical
- compares opposites and is often compound. ex:it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
