interrogative
used to ask a question. (sign the papers, old man)
interrupted
modifier between subject and verb/ between verb and direct object
exclamatory
used to show strong emotion. often ends with !
rhetorical
sentence that is loose, periodic, balanced, or antithetical
loose
a complex sentence that doesn't end with the main clause, but continues with other clauses, modifiers. can put the period anywhere.
balanced
a sentence with two or more clauses equal in structure, meaning, length
periodic
a sentence that leaves the completion of its main clause to the end. can only put the period at the end of the sentence
declarative
used to make a statement of fact. ex: Milk contains calcium.
imperative
used to express a command. begins with adverb, usually has an implied subject
parallel
balanced in structure, meaning, length
inverted
anastrophe (sort of) inverted order of the sentence - switch subject and verb
antithetical
compares opposites and is often compound. ex:it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
