Words that have the opposite meaning.

- Addition at the end of a book or document, usually giving further details.
- appendix
- Information explaining a picture.
- caption
- A type of text structure, often using the word because, telling how one thing causes another to happen.
- cause and effect
- The most important people in a story.
- characters
- A type of text structure showing how things are alike and different.
- compare and contrast
- Clues given in a passage as to the meaning of a word.
- Context clues
- A dictionary listing of a word giving its part of speech, meaning, and example sentence.
- definition
- A type of text structure that tells about something by giving a picture in words.

- Information that describes more fully the main topic.

- Making a decision or voicing an opinion based on reasoning; inferencing.
- drawing conclusions
- A text type that seeks to explain or inform.

- Stories that tell about imaginary people and happenings.

- A story or tale including fiction, biography or autobiography.

- Writing that is true including biography, informational reports, and other writing that is not fiction.

- A text type that is designed to convince the reader to adopt a particular opinion or perform a certain action.
- persuasive
- The plan or main story of a play, novel, short story, or poem.
- plot
- A guess about what will happen based on information already given.
- prediction
- A text structure in which a puzzle or dilemma is answered or solved.
- problem and solution
- In a narrative, the solved problem of the main character(s)
- resolution
- A text structure in which one action or event follows another.
- sequence
- In fiction, where and when a story takes place.
- Setting
- A figure of speech comparing two things using the word like or as.
- simile
- A sentence in the introduction of the conclusion of an article that summarizes the main idea of the topic being presented.
- summary sentence
- A word that means about the same thing as another word.
- synonym
- A listing by page number of the main topics of a book, usually found in the front of the book.

- A text type that gives directions or explains the procedure to complete a specific task.
