- External abdominal oblique
-
O: Lower ribs
I: Aponeurosis inserts into linea alba
A: Compresses abdomen, flexes and laterally rotates spine contralaterally (to opposite side), and depress ribs
N: Lower Intercostal nerves (that means thoracic spinal nerves), Iliohypogastric, Ilioinguinal nerves - Internal abdominal oblique
-
O: inguinal ligament; iliac crest; thoracolumbar fascia (aponeurosis)
I: Lower border of lower ribs; with aponeurosis; pubis, pectineal line
A: Compresses abdomen, flexes and laterally rotates spine contralaterally (to opposite side), and depress ribs
N: Lower Intercostal nerves (that means thoracic spinal nerves), Iliohypogastric, Ilioinguinal nerves - Transversus abdominis
-
O: inguinal ligament & Iliac crest; thoracolumbar fascia; cartilages of lower ribs
I: via the aponeurosis to linea alba, pubis and pectineal line
A: Compresses abdomen, depresses ribs
N: lower intercostal nerves - Rectus abdominis
-
O: Crest of pubis; interpubic ligament
I: Cartilages of ribs 5-7, Xiphoid process
A: Compresses abdomen, Flexes spine
N: Intercostal nerves 7-12 - Quadratus lumborum
-
O: Iliolumbar ligament & posterior iliac crest
I: 12th rib, tips of transverse processes L1-L4
A: Fixes last 2 ribs, flexes spine laterally
N: T12, L1
Seen in posterior abdominal wall - Psoas major
-
O: Transverse processes of L1-L5; sides of the vertebral bodies and fibrocartilage of T12- L5
I: Lesser trochanter of femur
A: Flexes thigh and rotates it laterally; flexes spine and bends spine laterally
N: L2-L3 - Illiacus
-
O: Upper iliac fossa; iliac crest; anterior sacroiliac ligament and base of sacrum
I: Tendon of Psoas muscle and directly to lesser trochanter
A: Flexes and laterally rotates thigh
N: Femoral nerve (L2- L3)
(Note the relationship of the femoral nerve to the Psoas and Iliacus) - Linea Alba
-
Several Aponeurosis connect here
Runs from the zyphoid to the pubis - Fascia
-
Deep - dense CT; ensheathes muscle and organs
Superficial - loose areolar; subcutaneous - Rectus Sheath
-
formed by the aponeurosis of all three abdominal muscles
Below acruate line - prevents possiblity of 8 pack; All of the aponeurosis are anterior t
Above acruate line - The external abdominal oblique aponeurosis is above; the internal abdominal oblique sheath wraps anterior and posterior, and the transverse abdominus wraps posterior arount the rectus abdominus sheath - Diaphragm
-
Origin Vert Column and Ribs
Helps in urintation and defecation; breathing
