The 8 Gardner intelligences are produced by collections of neurons
There is logical that there will be specific circuits for every intelligence
Standard distribution for IQ
Range of 70 to 55 is mild, 40 to 55 is moderate, 25 to 40 is severe/profound
is located in the center of the temporal lobe one on each side
Hippocampus
Some one who is between 85 and 115 of IQ is called
Average range of intelligence is within 1 standard deviation of the mean
Saimon and Benney created this test with 25 sequentially more difficult questions and on the basis of this test they can more or less determine
Relevant to the average population where the person was mentally
personality
The consistent and distinctive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in which an individual engages.
Intelligence
Ability to adapt to and shape behavior
How a standard deviation is determined
Thru mathematical techniques statistics
In the Standard Distribution chart the Norm is?
The average/50 percentile
Two factors that affect behavior, mediate violence in our society are
Nature and Nurture
Somebody in the range of severe 25-40 IQ
Will need assistance all the time (shower, get dress, bathroom etc.)
If some body has a fairly low verbal IQ , but a fairly normal or average we can infer from them that
They have some kind of learning disability or reading disability
Standard deviations are the percentage lines. How far apart this lines are
15%
Since the amygdale is close to the hippocampus when something frightening or scarier happens is
is immediately recorded /recognized in the hippocampus
Retarded refers to
Developmentally delayed
Logical construct
Term use to describe some thing we see indirectly
Epilepsy
Random firing of neurons on the brain. Instead of been in a coordinated fashion, they are all over the brain. Characterized by the periodic sudden loss or impairment of consciousness, often accompanied by convulsions
Gardnerd's 8 different types of intelligences
1) Verbal = language) 2 Logical= mathematics ) 3 Spatial = sense of relationship of objects ) 4 Kinesthetic = athletics ) 5 Musical = use of any musical instrument/mathematical relation between notes ) 6 Interpersonal in (between)able to relate to other people make others understand them ) 7 Intrapersonal = been able to understand our selves ) 8 Nature = every thing in nature understand the sequence of the season, been able to relate animals in the environment
Some body that is in the moderate range 40-55 IQ
Will need some supervision
What is the idea of garnerd's method of this types of intelligence
Is that scoring in one separate area has no effect in other areas
Structure that encodes and retrieve information in to and from memory. Part of the brain that when it gets a concussion stops working for a period of time
Hippocampus
There was a study of men watching a regular movies, then there was a survey asking them questions about rapists and violence etc. then another group of men where watching a movie about rapists and violence. This group of men where more accepting the violence toward women than those that didn't see the violence movie.
In this particular study the Nature and Nurture where involved because anything that is in our environment is nature. But this doesn't mean that if we watch a movie we will become violent this is were the biological components play their role , meaning that if somebody has pregeneric predeposition there is a good chance for the individual to become violent. This is the part of the Nurture because biological components get involved .
Denial
Pretend that something does not exist
dyslexia
impaired ability to understand written language: a learning disorder marked by a severe difficulty in recognizing and understanding written language, leading to spelling and writing problems. It is not caused by low intelligence or brain damage.
How our educational system is designed?
People who don't do well in school very often is put on special education programs and what this people believe is that they are not very smart . There are people that has very low IQ, but there is people that is actually intelligent but don't have good verbal skills and when they see themselves next to this people they assume that they are also the same and the problem is that is some thing that they carry all their life
In the Standard Distribution chart if we talking about height lets say the average of men is 6' tall that will be
The median 50 percentile
Which are the two things that the intelligence test don't measure
Motivation and creativity (this two contribute to a great deal of success
Some body with an IQ of 25 and below
Has profound developmental delays/retarded
What happens to the Hippocampus if both damaged
We will not be able to encode information
A negative impact or consequence in our society as a result of observational learning is?
Violence is the result of media in other words the watching of violence in television is one of the main reasons of increasing violence in our society.
How many standing deviations bellow the Mean does some body has to be to qualified to be retarded/developmentally delayed
More than two standing deviations, below 70
People that are in the mild range 50-70 IQ very often can
Be independent can take care of them selves
WISC (Webster adult intelligence scale) consists of two different components which are
9 subtests.5 of them are called verbal subtest.(to come up with a verbal IQ ) the other 4 are called non verbal of performance.(to come up with a non verbal IQ) .The combination of this two tests is called Full scale test this test enables us to determine whether or not in some bodies intellectual abilities is causing them problems or learning disabilities
Cultural bias
Is when questions are asked with the expectations that people know what they are been asked. People of other cultures may not score as well on an IQ test as a result their IQ may be lower. Is not the same how smart you are, is saying how well you did on the test, and part of how well you did on the test is determined by our cultu
