- Counterculture
- A movement in which young people adopted values that differed from those of mainsteam society.
- New Right
- The women's movement angered a lot of conservatives. These angered conservatives joined together to form a movement known as the new right. This movement emphasized traditional, social, cultural, and moral values.
- Betty Friedman
- She was the author of "Feminine Mystique." The book expressed the discontent that many women were feeling. Her book helped to unite a number of women throughout the nation.
- American Indian Movement (AIM)
- Many native americans were not satisfied with the governments new policies. As a result some young native americans formed AIM which was an organization which damanded greater rights for native americans. The group used violence to make its point.

- the belief that women should have economic, political, and social equality with men. This was the theory behind the women's movement in the 60's
- Cesar Chavez
- The group leader of the farm workers movement who believed that farm workers should organize into a union. He helped establish the nation farm workers association. In 1966 Chavez merged this group with a Filipino agricultural union. Together they formed the United Farm worker association (ufwoc).
- Dien Bien Phu
- the city in Vietnam where the French surrendered control over Vietnam. The Vietminh defeated the french.
- Gerald Ford
- He replaced Nixon as the 38th oresident of the US. He lost publc support when he pardoned Nixon.
- John Mitchell
- One of Nixon's advisers, attorney gerneral. He was also the director of the committee to reealect the president
- The Beatles
- Rock n roll continued to become more popular. The beatles was a british group that was an influencial band which helped rock music become part of mainstream America.
- Ho Chi Minh Trail
- Ho Chi Minh (norths leader) supported the vietcong. A network of paths running between north and south vietnam to supply the vietcong with supplies.
- Staglation & Nixon
- During Nixon's presidency one of his biggest problems was the weak economy. Staglation was when unemployment and inflation increased at the same time.
- Watergate
- The scandal was the attempt to cover up a burglary of the Democratic national committee headquaters. Nixon hired 5 men to raid democaratic party offices in the Watergate complex. The men were caight photographing piles and placing wiretaps on phones.
- John Ehrlichman
- One of Nixon's advisers, chief domestic adviser
- Revenue Sharing proposal
- Introduced by Nixon. The federal govt usually told state and local governments how to spend their federal money. Under revenue sharing state and local officals could spend their federal dollars however they saw fit with few limits.
- Woodstock
- A massive outdoor rock concert in upstate New York. This was an example of rock n rolls popularity.
- H.R. Haldeman
- One of Nixons advisers, chief of staff. He helped Nixon get reelected.
- New Federalism
- Nixon's plan to give federal power back to the states.
- Phyllis Schlaffy
- The womens movement failed to win the passage of the equal rights amaendment (ERA) which was a proposed amaendment to the US constitution. It would have outlawed govt discrimination on the basis of sex. Phyllis Schlaffy was the ERA's opponent. He called the ERA the work of radical feminists.
- Gloria Steinem
- She was a journalist who helped founded the national womens political caucus. This group encouraged women to run for political office.
- La Raza Unida
- (The United people party) was started by jose Angel Gutierrez. This party ran latino candidates and won positions in city government offices.
