Rational numbers
anything you can write as a fraction
counting or natural numbers
all positive numbers not including zero (1,2,3...)
commutative property
a+b=b+a (when you change the order in which you multiply or add and get the same answer)
non-integers
all real numbers that are not integers (-1/2, .73, -.73, 1/2)
Complex numbers
all numbers
imaginary numbers
i=square root of a negative number (example)
multiplicative identity
(a)(1)=a (what you can multiply a number by so that the value stays the same)
real numbers
all numbers that are not imaginary
Reflexive
a=a (one value equals itself)
Symmetric
If a=b then b=a (when the value of two numbers is equal to the value of the same numbers)
additive identity
a+0=a (what you can add to the number so that it stays the same, add 0)
Transitive
If a=b and b=c then a=c ( when three values equal to each other)
associative property
a(bc)=(ab)c (when you switch where the parentheses and still get the same answer, multiplication and addition only)
Integers
all numbers that are not fractions (-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3,)
Additive inverse
a+-a=0 (when you add the opposite and equal 0)
distributive property
a(b+c)=ab+ac
Multiplicative inverse
(a)(1/a)=0 (when you multiply by the reciprocal and equal 0)
Irrational numbers
anything you cannot write as a fraction
whole numbers
all positive numbers including zero (0,1,2,3...)
