Perform focused assessment for cardiac patient. Take blood pressure-must be above 100mmHg systolic. Obtain order from medical direction either on-line or off-line.

One spray or tablet repeated every five minutes if no relief of pain, systolic blood pressure remains above 100 systolic, and if authorized by medical direction. Maximum of three doses total.

Gloves as required.

Prescription is written for the patient experiencing allergic reactions.
Expiration date has not passed.
Medication is not discolored(if able to see).

Administer epinephrine auto-injector.

What is the required critical performance??
Remove safety cap from the auto-injector.
Place tip of auto-injector against the patient's thigh.
Lateral portion of the thigh midway
between the waist and the knee.
Push injector firmly against the thigh until the injector activates.
Hold injector in place at least ten seconds or until the medication is injected.

Ensure:
Prescription is written for the patient.
Expiration date has not passed.
Medication is not discolored or cloudy(if able to see).
Ask patient about previous doses.

Administer inhaler.

What is the required critical performance??
Check connection of inhaler to container.
Ensure the inhaler is at room temperature or warmer.
Shake the inhaler vigorously several times.
Have patient place lips around opening of inhaler.
Have patient depress the hand held inhaler simultaneously inhaling deeply.
Instruct patient to hold breath for as long as possible.
