- brand names
- the names companies give the drugs;the names by which they are sold
- Addiction
- A physical or psychological craving for higher and higher doses of a drug that leads to bodily harm, social maladjustment, or economic hardship.
- inactive ingredients
- ingredients that give a medicine qualities other than medical effects. for example oils and wases may be mixed with a medication to be used on the skin; water, colorants, and flavors may be added to liquid medicines taken by mouth.
- acetaminophen
- A drug that relieves fever and pain.
- generic names
- the cehmical names for drugs, as opposed to the brand names; the names everyone can use
- active ingredients
- ingredients in a medicine that produce physical effects on the body
- Medicines
- Drugs used to help cure disease, lessen disease severity, relieve symptoms, prevent disease, help with dagnosis, or produce other desired effects.
- drug synergy
- the combined action of two drugs that is greater than of different from the action of either drug alone.
- antagonist
- a drug that opposes the action of another
- transdermal
- "Across the skin." A drug placed in contact with the skin by way of adhesive patch. The drug is the absorbed across the skin and into the bloodstream.
- Drugs
- Substances taken into the body that change one or more of the body's functions.
- antihistamines
- drugs that counteract inflammation caused by histamine, one of the chemicals involved in allergic reactions
- stimulant
- any of a wide variety of drugs including amphetamines, caffeine, and others, that speed up the central nervous system.
- antibiotics
- drugs used to fight bacterial infection.
- Tolerance
- State that develops in certain drug users that makes larger and larger amounts necessary to provide the desired effects.
- prescription drugs
- drugs legally available only with a physician's order.
- relapses
- illnesses that return after being treated and almost cured. Relapses are often more severe than the original illnesses.
- safe
- causing no undue harm; part of the legal requirment for a drug.
- Aspirin
- A drug that relieves fever, pain, and inflammation.
- over- the-counter drugs
- drugs legally available only without a prescription.
- Ketoprofen
- drug that relieves fever, pain, and immflammation. Its small pill size eases swallowing for those who have trouble swallowing regular pills

- the amount of a drug necessary to produce death.
- effective
- having the medically intended effect ;part of the legal requirement for a drug.
- chronic
- in relation to illnesses, this term refers to a disease or condition that develops slowly, shows little change, and lasts a long time.

- effects of drugs other than the desired medical effects
- caffeine
- a mile stimulant of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) found in common foods, beverages, and medicines.
- ibuprofen
- a drug that relieves fever, pain, and inflammation.
- naproxen sodium
- a drug that relieves fever, pain, and inflammation. It provides longer relief from a single does than other common pain relievers.
