- Bacteria
- One-celled microorganism that can cause disease
- Barrier

- Contagious
- Description of a disease-causiing microorganism that are tranmitted easily from one person to another
- Cross-contamination
- The spread of microorganisms from one person to another
- Direct contact
- The transfer of microorganisms from person to person through skin contact

- Contains both harmless and harmful microorganisms
- Disinfection
- The process of destroying many harmful microorganisms
- Emesis
- The product of vomiting gastric contents
- Excretion
- The removal of waste products such as urine and stool from the body
- Host
- A living body or organism that microorganisms attack
- Immune response
- A process of the body that tries to provide immunity
- Immunity
- The body's ability to fight off a foriegn substance such as bacteria

- Inability to retain urine or bowel contents

- The transfer of microorganisms from a peron to an object or equipment to another person
- Infection
- An illness caused by harmful microorganisms getting into the body

- A set of practices that destroy and prevent the spread of harmful microorganisms; refers to clean rather than sterile

- Usually a one-celled living organism that can be seen only through a microscope

- Smooth lining of parts of the body such as the respiratory tract and the digestive tract; produces mucous

- Bacteria that are harmless and normally live in or on the human body

- Infection azqired in a hospital, care center, or other institution

- An organism that lives upon a host without contributing to the host's survival

- A detailed set of actions to be carried out in a specific order
- Route of transmission
- The mechanism or way microorganisms are transferred or carried from one place to another, that is, from the source to the host

- Soaked to the point that no more moisture can be absorbed
- Secretion
- Substances produced by the body, usually in liquid form; slaiva is a secretion produced in the mouth

- A minimum set of standards or practices that care providers are required to follow when doing any tasks that require contact with blood or body fluids

- Precautions in addition to standard precautions that are implemented to try to control the transmission of pathogens in clients with a known or suspected infectious disease that can be easily transmitted to others

- Workplace Hazerdous Material Information System; an information system that informs individulas of how to safely handle dangerous and hazerdous prodects in the workplace
