18th Amendment
The second target for an atomic bomb attack, three days after the Americans bombed HIROSHIMA. A city and port in south-west Japan, on the west coast of the island of Kyushu, its population was 438,724 in 1995. The bomb fell on August 9,1945. While the hilly terrain protected the population of 230,000 from the full effects of the explosion, 40,000 people were killed and tremendous destruction caused. On the following day Japan surrendered and the ceasefire began on August 15, the official surrender finally being signed on September 2.

Plessy vs. Ferguson, 1896

Gettysburg-fought in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was the battle with the largest number of casualities in the Civil Warm, and was an important turning point, Antietam was the first major battle in the Civil War to take place on Northern soil. It was the bloodiest single day battle in American history with almost 23,000 casualities
Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor
Roosevelt appointed her Secretary of Labour, the first American woman to hold Cabinet rank. She remained in post throughout Roosevelt's presidency and continued briefly under Truman. Perkins's period in office was notable for the introduction of wide-ranging reforms including the abolition of child labour, the introduction of unemployment insurance, minimum wage legislation, and a variety of measures to improve working conditions. She is also credited with devising and launching many of the New Deal initiatives aimed at stimulating employment.
Manhattan Project
Code name given to the development of the US atomic bomb during World War II. Work on the bomb was carried out in great secrecy by a team including US physicists Enrico Fermi and J. Robert Oppenheimer. The first test took place on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, and the next month the US Air Force dropped bombs on Japan.
Social Security
FDR was pro social security. This was part of the New Deal established after the Great Depression in 1929. The New Deal also includes the Wagner Act and the Housing Act. All 3 of these acts were put together as a social safety net for american citizens. The weakness of the New Deal is that it did justice mainly for whites and excluded minorities due to certain written rules in the acts. At the time the New Deal (soc security playing part) was a great idea for americans, however one of the biggest problems faced today for young people is the high possibility that social security will not be available at their time of retirement.
Wagner Act
built many public buildings, projects and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media and literacy projects. It fed children, redistributed food, clothing and housing

The Japanese surprise attack on the island of Hawaii. This brought America into the war and united everyone across the board. This also brought us out of neutrality.
Federal Reserve Act
An Act To provide for the establishment of Federal reserve banks, to furnish an elastic currency, to afford means of rediscounting commercial paper, to establish a more effective supervision of banking in the United States, and for other purposes.
