It was so silly - I can't even remember how it started. But it ended with some other girl wearing his ring.
And then, tonight, just before they told us we're on, Cheryl got a long distance collect call from Muncie.
The original Galaxy Beauty Cream
And the newest in the line of Galaxy Perfumes, Mooonglow!
I can't think of anyone, let alone my sisters and I, who could come between those two!
Sorry, Gloria!...This one is from Dianna Corrinne. Dianna would like to know, "What woman in history do you girls most admire?" Oh that's a hard one, Dianna. I gues I'd have to say "Mamie Eisenhower".
Goodnight!
Thak you so much! We would just love to stay and sing for you all night long. Honest. But the last Greyhound back to Muncie leaves in just 30 minutes, and Mother and Daddy are expecting us to be on it. We hope you keep reading about us in your Hit Paraders, listening to us on your 45's and looking for us on your television sets at home.
Finally, I turned to my big sister for advice. And she said...
Close your eyes...take a deep breath...and sing right into the receiver...
And now, we'd like to thank all of the wonderful people at Spotlight On Music.
Thank you!
just push this button. Okay girls? And we're...
The Taffetas!
Tab Hunter!
Rock Hudson!
Oh, I'd have to agree with Peggy!
Donna?
at the annual Bell Jar Festival in Muncie!
And we're very excited about that Laura! Now here's one for Cheryl! "How far do you go on a first date with a boy? Signed, Danny"
Hi, Mother! Hi, Daddy!
That's the first song Mother taught us on the accordion!
singing - But for now, it's time to go
Goodnight!
And just in case you get there before we do...
Don't forget to send us a photograph and a souvenir.
I think we have a shy audience member...
I think you're right, Peggy...Well, Josephine writes..."I know your mother is a great homemaker and a music teacher. Your father's an engineer, and that you began by singing solos in the church choir...the rest is history!" Oh, isn't that sweet of you to know all of that Josephine...She continues, "What I always wanted to know is, where do you get your fabulous dresses? Who does your hair? Is that your true color? And what are your favorite pastimes?" Peggy, why don't you begin?
beginning act 2
Before we move along, we'd like to take a moment to introduce a very good friend. On the piano, it's our very own cousin Anne! Say "Hi" Anne!
A smile is a crooked line that makes everything straight.
And that, I'm afraid, is all the time we have for "Taffeta Chatter."
Anne sneezes second time
My goodness, bless you! You know, Anne has kind of grown up with The Taffetas - laughing at Donna trying to walk in her first pair of high heels, or giving Cheryl some pointers before her first date. And she was always there for Peggy and me, trying one of Peggy's newest recipes for Jello Surprise, or teaching me one of the newest dance steps, like the bunny hop or the cha cha.
I'll be waiting at the Muncie depot for...him...his ring...and his letter sweater. Otherwise...
Cheryl!
Oh, that's a cinch! A Chevrolet convertible!
Our next question is from Gloria Drake of East 23rd Street, New York, New York. Gloria writes..."I saw you in Teen Romance kissing Eddie Fisher. Is it true that one of you had a date with him? If so, who's the lucky girl?"...Cheryl?
Bm bm bm dream
You all know us as a quartet, but every once in a while, we find a song that's just perfect for a duet. We found both the song, and the perfect duet, Donna and Peggy!
to Honey Creek, about twenty miles south of Muncie.
Our next one is from Stan Lobinski of Astoria, Long Island, New York. Raise your hand, Stan. Oh, there you are! Okay, Stan would like to ask...The answer is NO, Stan!...Oh, this one's for you, Peggy. Shirley Ann McElroy from Washington Heights asks "What is the key to The Taffeta success?"
end of life could be a dream
Thank you. Hi, I'm Kaye.
Anne sneezes third time
Gesudheit!
And now, do you want to know what President Eisenhower is doing about our boys in Korea?
Do you want to know more about Sputnik?
end of achoochacha
Thank you! We sure have a lot of fun with that one!
We're the only Taffetas in the phone book!
For now, the four of us...
so I'd have to say it's a tie between Mother and Connie Francis!
All right, our next question is from Howard Tanner, who lives in Brooklyn. Where are you, Howard? Hi, Howard! Howard writes, "The Taffetas are my favorite girl group!" Why thank you, Howard! Howard asks, "Who is your favorite film star?"
Or taking flash photographs during the performance!
You're right, Peggy! Well, we promised Mother and Daddy that althought they couldn't be with us here tonight, we wouldn't leave without a souvenir of our television debut for the family scrapbook.
singing: All I want is music and you!
Thank you! Wherever we travel, and wherever we perform, people are always stopping to ask about who we are...
singing - Because I'll Think of you!
Goodnight!
Davy Crocket...well, don't you just love his hair?
Here's one from Laura Kinelle of Astoria, Long Island, New York! Laura would like to know: "What do the Taffetas have planned for the immediate future?"
I just know that the future of popular music is in great hands!
Wait just a second...I've been handed a note...Oh my goodness! Mr. Ed Sullivan has just called to say that HE LIKED US! And that we will be appearing next Sunday on his show! Isn't that just wonderful?
all right, now everyone say "Cream Cheese!" That was just perfect!
We love looking at the photos in our Taffeta Scrapbook, remembering all of the wonderful audiences we've had a chance to sing for. Because, believe me, performing never really feels like work for The Taffetas. That's because we get to do the thing we all love the most - sing! For the wonderful folks like you!
They're all favorites to us!
And bring back the memories of days not too long ago, when we used to sing at the Moose Hall in Muncie!
No wonder four out of five Hollywood starlets prefer the Galaxy Beauty regimen. Galaxy...
It's heaven!
I have natural blonde hair. My favorite pastime is improving my Canasta game and my spare time is spent performing my duties as president of the Mario Lanza Fan Club! Back to you Kaye!
I have dark brown hair, and, when we're not planning our next personal appearance, I like to relax by reading Edna St. Vincent Mellay, and recording our experiences in a diary, which I hope someday to publish under the title, "My Life in Taffeta"...Thank you for your question, Josephine. Oh this is a good one for Donna, from Lou Santelli, of Teaneck New Jersey. "Donna, what do you look most for in a boy?"
And what our future goals are...
You read about us in the fan magazines...and you hear the disk jockeys talk about us on the radio, but somehow one or two questions never seem to get answered. And so, as we do on all our personal appearance tours, we'd like to take time out tonight for "Taffeta Chatter!"...Anne, may I have the "Chatter Box" please? Our first question tonight is from Josephine Procoppio of Staten Island. Where are you Josephine? Are you out there?
Hi!
Anne and the Taffetas go back a long way - to the days when the only places we were performing was in our rec room at home.
two very special people watching in Muncie, Indiana - our Mother and Daddy.
Hi, Mother! Hi, Daddy!
The Chandelieres!
Well, we're so glad you've joined us for an evening of love songs and fun songs!
Anne sneezes first time
Bless you. Anne has been playing the piano for The Taffetas ever since our very first professional date - the grand opening of the new IGA in Muncie. And she even played on our radio interview on "Platter Patter" live from Fort Wayne.
But, I have to say, that during this short stay, all of you have been so friendly and have made the big city of New York feel so safe, just like our home away from home!
You sure have! But you know, when we get back to Muncie, we each have a thing or two to take care of! Personally, I have so many wonderful memories to record in my diary. I have them tucked away...right here in my heart!
Peggy
And Kaye would just like to say...
For here at "Spotlight on Music", you'll only hear the latest about music and beauty.
And speaking of beauty...
