conflict
words that are pronounced the same but are spelled differently

homonym
a comparison between two unlike things using the words "like" or "as"
Example: Her hair was like gold.
simile
a comparison between two unlike things without using "like" or "as". You say that one thing "is/was" the other.
Ex: Her hair is gold. Her hair was gold.
metaphor
when something happens in a story which is the opposite of what is expected
irony
the overall effect of an author's writing in a story
tone
the outline of events in a story
plot
The turning point in a story. The highest point of interest in the plot when the conflict is resolved.
climax
Writing that tells a story
narrative
Writing that tries to get the reader to change his feelings, beliefs, or actions.
