- Great Plains
- the big grasslands that extends through the central portion of North America, from Texas Northward to Canada, east of the Rocky Mountains
- Crazy Horse
- A warrior that ambushed Captain William J. Fetterman and his company at Lodge Trail Ridge. This happened in Dec. 1866
- Grange
- a socail and ecucational organization, through which farmers attempted to combat the power of the railroads in the late 19th century
- Sand Creek Massacre
- 1864, Cheyyenne had returned to Colorado's Sand Creek Reserve for the Winter, Chivington and his troops went to sand Creek. Attack on dawn on November 29. Killed over 150 inhabitants, mostly women and children.
- Homestead Act
- a law that started in 1862, that provided 160 acres in the west to any citizen or intended citizen who was head of household and would cultivate the land for 5 years.
- Wounded Knee
- The Massacre by U.S. soldiers of 300 unarmed Native Americans at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota, in 1809
- Battle of Little Big Horn
- Sioux leader sitting bull led the fight against general George Custer and the 7th cavalry. The Sioux wanted miners out of the black hills, and had appealed to government officials in Washington to stop the miners. Washington doesn't listen. When custer came to little bighorn rivers sitting bull and his warriors were ready and killed them all!

- the sioux suffered from poverty and disease, they turned to Paiute prophet who promised that if the Sioux preformed the ritual, their disease would go away.
