- Synapse
- The Space between the axon of one neuron and dendrite of another
- Dendrite
- One or more projections or processes that transmit impulses to cell body
- Axon
- An enlongated projection that transmits impulses away from the cell body
- Oligodendroglia
- Holds nerve fibrs together and produces myelin sheath in CNS
- Astrocytes
- Attaches neurons to small blood vessels in the brain
- Nodes of Ranvier
- Space between Myelinated areas of an axon, indentation between adjacent schwann cells
- Nerve Impulses
- Self Propogating waves of electrical disturbances
- Ganglion
- a group of nerve cell bodies in the PNS
- Receptor
- Begining of a dendrite
- Effector
- Muscle glands or organs that put nerve impulses into effect
- Microglia
- Small cells that carry on Phagocytosis and inflame brain tissue
- Schwann Cells
- Form myelin in the PNS
- Afferent
- Sensory neuron that transmits impulses to the brain from all parts of the body
- Motor Neuron
- Transmits impulses away from the brain and spinal cord
- Interneuron
- Conducts impulses from sensory and motor neurons, 99% of all neuron impulses
