- SUFFRAGE
- The right to vote (at this time it was to all MEN)
- CAUCUS
- A closed political meeting (used to nominate people to office)
- NOMINATING CONVENTION
- Delegates from each state cast their votes for political candidates.
- SPOILS SYSTEM
- Handing out political jobs to the President's (or official's) supporters.
- KITCHEN CABINET
- Personal advisors to someone like the President.
- PET BANK
- State banks where Federal funds were put.
- TARIFF
- A tax (like on imported goods)
- SOVEREIGN
- Independent states
- STATES' RIGHTS
- The belief that an individual state may restrict federal authority.
- NULLIFICATION
- The right of states to declare fedral laws illegal.
- SECEDE
- Leave (as in the Union)
- TRAIL OF TEARS
- "The Trail Where They Cried" This was the trail the Native Americans were forced to travelto Indian Territory.
- INDIAN REMOVAL ACT OF 1830
- This act provided funds for the federal government to remove Native Americans from the eastern United States.
- SPECIE
- Hard cash in the form of gold or silver.
