- acid
- a compound having a sour taste, capable of neutralizing alkalis, a substance with a pH less than 7, turns blue litmus paper red, contains an atom that can accept a pair of electrons from a base
- alkaline base
- capable of neutralizing acids, a substance with a pH greater than 7, turns red litmus paper blue
- colloid
- a mixture containing small, undissolved particles that do not settle out. The particles are too small to be seen but large enough to scatter a light beam. ex:: fog, Jell-O, milk, mayonnaise, shaving cream, and whipped cream
- concentrated
- a mixture containing a lot of solute compared to the amount of solvent ex:: too strong of Kool-Aid or orange juice, or chocolate milk at the bottom of the carton
- dillute
- a mixture containing only a little solute for a lot of solvent. ex:: a weak solution such as weak Kool-Aid
- indicator
- something that identifies an acid or a base. ex:: litmus paper, pH paper, cabbage juice, or tumeric paper
- miscibility
- capable of being mixed
- neutralize
- to bring a solution to a pH of 7
- saturated
- when a solution is holding as much solute as possible under the given conditions

- the substance dissolved in a solution

- when a solution is holding as much solute as possible and the extra solute is unable to mix in
