- The distance around a closed figure.
- perimeter
- Of two rays that form an angle, the one that stays fixed in place while the terminal ray swings out from it.
- initial ray
- A 2-dimensional figure that does not start and end at the same point.
- open figure
- All the points between the rays of an angle.
- interior (of an angle)
- A triangle with two congruent sides.
- isosceles triangle
- The point that is an equal distance from every point on a circle.
- center
- A unit for measuring area.
- square unit
- An angle that has a measure of less than 90 degrees.
- acute angle
- An angle that has a measure of exactly 180 degrees.
- straight angle
- A 2-dimensional figure that starts and ends at the same point.
- closed figure
- A closed 2-dimensional figure with sides that are line segments. The sides do not cross each other.
- polygon
- A closed, curved 2-dimensional figure having all points an equal distance from the center.
- circle
- An exact location in space.
- point
-
The distance around a circle.
It is about 3 times the length of the diameter. - circumference
- A part of a line that has one endpoint and continues in one direction without end.
- ray
- A number expressed using a decimal point.
- decimal
- A line segment that connects a point on a cirle with the center.
- radius
- An angle formed by two radii of a circle.
- central angle
- An angle that has a measure of exactly 90 degrees.
- right angle
- A point at the end of a ray or a line segment.
- endpoint
- Of two rays that form an angle, the one that opens out from the initial ray.
- terminal ray
- The number by which a dividend is divided.
- divisor
- An angle that has a measure greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.
- obtuse angle
- Another name for mean.
- average
- The number of cubic units that fit inside a 3-dimensional figure.
- volume
- The number that is to be raised to a given power.
- base
- A polygon whose sides and angles are not all of the same lengths and measures.
- irregular polygon
-
A figure formed by two rays
(sides) with the same endpoint
(vertex). - angle
- Lines that meet or cross at a common point.
- intersecting lines
- All points that are not on the ray or in the interior of an angle.
- exterior (of an angle)
- The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (about 3.14 or 22/7).
- pi
- A rule that is used to tell whether one number is divisible by another.
- divisibility rule
- A polygon with five sides and five angles.
- pentagon
- An operation on two numbers that tells how many groups or how many in each group. It can also tell how many are left over.
- division
- An operation that tells how many in all when equal groups are combined.
- multiplication
- The number of square units needed to cover a region or figure.
- area
- The common point of the two rays of an angle, two sides of a polygon, or three or more edges of a 3-dimensional figure.
- vertex
- One number is divisible by another if the remainder is 0 after dividing.
- divisible by
- An instrument used to draw or measure angles.
- protractor
- A unit used to measure angles.
- degree
- A part of a line between two endpoints.
- line segment
- A chord that passes through the center of a circle.
- diameter
- In division, the number left after the quotient is found.
- remainder
- A line segment that connects two points on a circle.
- chord
- Lines in the same plane that never intersect.
- parallel lines
- The result of division.
- quotient
- A straight path that goes in two directions without end.
- line
- Any lines in space that do not intersect and are not parallel.
- skew lines
- These are lines that cross each other at right angles.
- perpendicular lines
