- Afferent
- structures moving towards an organ or central nervous system
- Efferent
- structures moving away from organ or CNS
- Superficial vs. Deep
- Towards the surface of the body vs. further from surface of body
- most superficial organ of the human body is
- skin (integumentary system).
- Just deep to the skin is...and what is it composed of
- superficial (subcutaneous or hypodermis) fascia. The superficial fascia is composed of loose connective tissue and fat.
- Deep to the superficial fascia is...and what is it composed of and what does it envelope
- deep fascia. a dense irregular connective tissue layer. Deep fascia invests or envelopes deep structures in the body such as organs, muscles and nerves.
- what is subserous fascia
- A specific type of deep fascia, the organs and vessels of the abdominal cavity are found in this subserous fascia.
- what is the skeletal system comprised of
- skeletal system is comprised of bones, cartilages, ligaments and joints
- what are the three types of muscle in the body and what does each form
-
1.Smooth muscle – forms part of the walls of most vessels and hollow organs (e.g., intestines) – under involuntary control.
2.Cardiac uscle – forms the walls of the heart – under involuntary control.
3.Skeletal muscle – moves bones and other structures such as the eyes - under voluntary control - What are the muscle layers? and their order?
- basic structural unit of a muscle is the muscle fiber (muscle cell), covered by endomysium, covered by perimysium, covered by epimysium
- What is epimysium and what is its composition?
- epimysium is the deep fascia encasing a muscle. Many muscle fascicles are further bundled together and covered by an even denser connective tissue called the epimysium
- Describe endomysium
- Each individual muscle fiber is covered by a thin layer of loose connective tissue called the endomysium.
- Describe perimysium
- Many parallel muscle fibers are bundled together and covered by a denser connective tissue covering called the perimysium
- What is a muscle fascicle
- Each muscle bundle enveloped by perimysium is known as a muscle fascicle
- What constitutes a single muscle?
- muscle fascicles and their corresponding epimysium
