Cordillera
a chain of mountains, usually the principal mountain system or mountain axis of a large landmass.
Valley
an elongated depression between uplands, hills, or mountains, esp. one following the course of a stream.
Cape
a piece of land jutting into the sea
Fold
a portion of strata that is folded or bent, as an anticline or syncline, or that connects two horizontal or parallel portions of strata of different levels (as a monocline).
Rain Shadow
a region in the lee of mountains that receives less rainfall than the region windward of the mountains.
Downstream
with or in direction of a water source
Gulf
a portion of an ocean or sea partly enclosed by land
Peak
the pointed top of a mountain or ridge
Archipelago
an area's original inhabitants
Sirocco
any hot, oppressive wind, esp. one in the warm sector of a cyclone.
Moraine
a ridge, mound, or irregular mass of unstratified glacial drift, chiefly boulders, gravel, sand, and clay.
Alluvial Plain
a level or gently sloping surface formed of sediments laid down by streams, generally during flooding.
Upstream
toward or in the higher part of a stream; against the current.
Lake
a body of fresh or salt water of considerable size, surrounded by land
Aquifer
any geological formation containing or conducting ground water, esp. one that supplies the water for wells, springs, etc.
Peninsula
an area of land almost completely surrounded by water except for an isthmus connecting it with the mainland
Plateau
a land area having a relatively level surface considerably raised above adjoining land on at least one side, and often cut by deep canyons
Sea
the salt waters that cover the greater part of the earth's surface.
Delta
alluvial deposit at the mouth of a river
Escarpment
a long, precipitous, clifflike ridge of land, rock, or the like, commonly formed by faulting or fracturing of the earth's crust.
Harbor
such a body of water having docks or port facilities
Atoll
a ring-shaped coral reef or a string of closely spaced small coral islands, enclosing or nearly enclosing a shallow lagoon.

the beginning or place of origin of a stream or river.
Strait
a narrow passage of water connecting two large bodies of water
Isthmus
a narrow strip of land, bordered on both sides by water, connecting two larger bodies of land
Continent
the main land
Island
a tract of land completely surrounded by water
Habitat
the natural environment of an organism; place that is natural for the life and growth of an organism
Plain
Having no visible elevation or depression; flat; level
Ocean
the vast body of salt water that covers almost three fourths of the earth's surface.
Estuary
that part of the mouth or lower course of a river in which the river's current meets the sea's tide.
Cataract
a descent of water over a steep surface; a waterfall, esp. one of considerable size.
