- Pidgin
- a naturally arising contact language made up of elements of other languages but with limited vocabulary and grammar, and it is no one's native language
- Creole
- a pidgin that has become a native language for some; has a full vocabulary and grammar
- Agency
- an individual's ability to reflect upon his/her own culture's world-view, beliefs, and practices, and make independent choices
- Subjectivity
- interior experiences shaped by a person's position in a particular field of power relations
- Genocide
- an attempt to exterminate an entire group
- Ethnocide
- an attempt to forcibly destroy differences between groups through forced assimilation and/or genocide
- Unilineal
- a kinship system in which descent and relatedness are traced through either the mother or father, but not both
- Matrilineal
- unilineal kinship system that traces descent and relatedness through the mother
- Patrilineal
- unilineal kinship system that traces descent and relatedness through the father
- Witch
- a person who has an ability to unconsciously project negative emotions in a way that can harm others
- Myth
- story in which symbolic imagery is more important that literal truth and that communicates information or values important within a particular culture
- Religion
- worldview in which people personify cosmic forces and devise ways to deal with them that resemble the ways they deal with powerful human beings in their society
